Life’s Too Short for Bad Hair Days!
This project is designed for an upscale hair studio, offering more than just a standard price and services list. In addition to these essentials, users will have the ability to schedule appointments with their preferred hairstylists, ensuring a personalized and luxurious experience.
User Research
As a guy, the hair salon and beauty industry feel a bit foreign to me—I usually just go to my neighborhood barber for a quick cut. To bridge that gap, I researched potential users and their needs for a hair studio website. Existing salon sites often just list services and prices, but is that really enough? Since I'm designing a new website without any analytics yet, I’m relying on industry research, consumer trends, and surveys to inform my UX decisions. Below are key findings and my design solutions for each insight.
Key Findings
· 82% of women believe that social media drives hair style and beauty trends.
· Users want social media content that feature real people engaged in the salon situations.
Proposed Design Solution:
The website should display a social media feed. Use juicer.io to automatically pull content from the hair salon’s social media accounts. Add a photo gallery to showcase customers with their new hair styles and have social media share buttons.
· Users want to be taught on how to maintain and upkeep their hairstyle at home
Proposed Design Solution:
Add a blog feature to the website where users can read articles and watch videos on how to manage the look that they paid for, proper product application etc.
· Biggest trend shifts is that users wants to receive information on-the-go (mobile), from SMS notfications, to being able to book an appointment online.
Proposed Design Solution:
Add an online booking feature where users can set up appointments and choose any or preferred hairstylists. The website must be responsive so users can view the website on mobile.
All organic products should be labelled
and have their own category
· Hair salons rely on 5-15% of their revenue from hair care product sales.
· Organic products & products produced in a sustainable (environmentally conscious) manner are driving growth and revenue.
Proposed Design Solution:
Dedicate a page to showcase hair care products. Product descriptions and reviews should be added so users can make a well-informed decision before buying. Organic and eco-friendly products should have a label and their own category.
· Most male users visit hair salons for strictly haircuts while female users prefer to get a haircut AND additional services — hair coloring, straightening, blowouts, etc.
Proposed Design Solution:
Display other services as prominently as haircuts. All services should be shown on the homepage, immediately right after the above-the-fold section.
· Since hair salons are brick-and-mortar business, the salon's location and business hours are crucial.
Proposed Design Solution:
Add a map of the salon's location and business address and hours just before the footer. This section should appear on every page.
The hair salon’s address and booking of appointment should be on the sticky top nav bar. A map and business information should be on every page, just before the footer.
User Flow
Below is a user-flow I did for the booking appointment feature.
User Story
To communicate product requirements to all team members, I made a user story.
Every feature to what the user can do on the website will be listed here.
The user story will change as the project evolves. All user stories will be kept together with the product backlog.
